World Skills Engineering Students at Bridgwater College

It was back at Bridgwater College again last Friday to take some photos, this time of the engineering students. The students are competitors for the World Skills competition which will next be held in Calgary, Canada. I caught them as they were learning about the workings of the metal lathes in the engineering workshop, but they also had a task to turn a lawnmower into a go cart a la Scrap Heap Challenge seen on TV.

Later in the day we took a walk into the town as once a year over a hundred carnival carts emerge from rusty old sheds and hidden lockups for the Bridgwater Carnival. One of the workers from the British Flag Carnival Club talked about how the carts are designed and how each club tries to come up with new ideas from year to year to catch the judge’s eye.
