Honiton family photographer
Looking for a Honiton family photographer?
Being not far from Honiton, I am sometimes asked to do family photography in Devon at places like Sheafhayne Manor for birthdays and anniversaries. There are many pretty locations in Devon to stay at and Sheafhayne Manor was the perfect setting for this family, despite the undecided weather at the time.
Any other grand countryhouse or cottage would be a suitable backdrop to your celebratins too. For family photography I simply need some nice features and foliage, and most importantly space.
Depending on the time of year, I’ll be looking out for flowers, tree blossom, old farm gates, dry stone walls, archways, steps and benches. Each location I am called to for family photography will have differing backdrops and props, but I always see what is available at the start of your family photoshoot and then visualise where I can place people. This ensures you get the very best photos during your Honiton family photoshoot.

Outdoor family photos
Do you have a favourite Honiton countryside spot, or a nice area in your family garden that might be a good backdrop for photos? Have a think about what is in your area and I will make the best of it. The best places are where there are a variety of backgrounds and textures along with some props such as old walls, a rocky background or some rustic buildings. If it’s the right time of year, blossom on trees in spring can make for some absolutely stunning photos full of life, light and colour. There are so many things in Honiton than can serve as a great background for your countryside family photoshoot adventure.
The unpredictable weather
As lovely as the great outdoors is for family photography in the Honiton area, it can also be unpredictable and few people would want a photoshoot in the rain. If the weather forecast is bad for your family photoshoot, and as long as an alternative day is not already booked, I am happy to be flexible.
Apart from specific days such as Mother’s Day or birthdays, if you are spending a week together at an Air BnB, then that gives some flexibility for me to come on a backup day when the clouds have cleared.
Steps to booking your family photoshoot

Options for your photoshoot
I can take photos outside and in a more relaxed manner, or I can take photos indoors and use studio lighting
Relaxed location photography (mostly outdoors)
This could be photos taken at your favourite beauty spot (or one I suggest), in your garden or at an Air BnB that you are staying at. The photos can be indoors or outdoors, but they will be more relaxed and quicker outdoors as I won’t have to get as technical with lighting, which would slow everything down. Typically these photos are a lot more free, fun and a little less traditional.
Indoor studio photography (in your home)
If you are lucky to have a lot of space in your home (or you are staying in a large holiday accommodation), this option is for people who like more traditional family photos that you would expect to find on a wall in your home for years to come. Professional studio lighting will be used and everyone is arranged in the photo with care and a little patience on your part so that everyone is looking their best for their posed photos.
I start with the largest group and then can do smaller family groups and couples after that. This more structured and slower approach means I can take more time with the details of each photo. I need a minimum clear space of 3×4 metres if I am to set up studio lighting indoors. More space will be required for larger groups.
