Today I drove over to Wells in Somerset for a morning photo shoot with a lovely family of 16 as there was an 80th birthday today. The family were due to go to a party later on, but before that, as they are so rarely all together in one place, they wanted a family photograph.
I had hoped really to go to take some family photos in the local park as at this time of the year the autumnal leaves are gorgeous reds, greens and yellows. I imagined photos of kids running or lying in piles of leaves. Alas there wasn’t time for that on this occasion due to lunch time commitments, but there was adequate space for family photos in the back garden.
It is a very cold day today, so first of all I briefed the family what my plans were with where I wanted them and how I wanted to position them. That meant everyone knew what to do already before we even went into the cold. I could then work quickly, get the photos and then ask the family to return to the warmth of the house whilst I prepared for smaller family group photos of parents and their children. At the end of the shoot I ended up with about 40 photos for the online photo gallery.
The colour from the foliage behind some of the people in the photos really popped out in the editing and I was really pleased with how I had caught everyone. The photos went down very well with the family and all enjoyed the experience. I really enjoy doing family photo shoots because I make sure everyone is relaxed and we all enjoy ourselves. That then means I get great photos and we are all pleased with the results.
